Our Journey: From Corporate Complexity to Small Business Simplicity
Our professional foundations were built in the demanding environments of multinational corporations. Milla honed her analytical skills as a market analyst in manufacturing, while John developed his technical expertise as an analyst programmer in the finance, engineering and construction sectors. These roles gave us invaluable insights into how large, successful organisations operate.
As John's career progressed to medium-sized companies expanding beyond Western Australia, we witnessed a recurring pattern: growth brought centralisation. The direct collaboration with end-users that made work meaningful was replaced by bureaucratic processes and "subject matter expert" consultations. The joy of making tangible differences in people's daily work lives gradually diminished under layers of politics and red tape.

Business Overview
The Entrepreneurial Reality
When the opportunity arose to manage a family business, we embraced it as a chance to apply our corporate experience in a more direct, hands-on environment. With minimal handover and virtually no industry knowledge, we brought fresh perspectives uncorrupted by
the way things had always been done …
Our theory was straightforward: implement best practices from larger corporations, analyse and document all processes and create efficient systems. The reality proved quite different.
Small business ownership meant juggling countless responsibilities—client management, programming, compliance, finance, marketing, staffing and sales. Our days stretched from 9 AM to midnight (and often beyond). Despite our expertise, we found ourselves time-poor, unable to conduct the thorough analysis we knew was necessary.
We implemented systems based on supposed "best practices," only to discover they didn't suit our actual needs. We later modified these systems based on real-world experience, constantly wishing we had the bandwidth to properly analyse changes, measure outcomes, and make data-driven decisions.
Competing against inflexible franchises with their exorbitant fees and rigid structures, we empathised with fellow small business owners facing similar challenges.
Why South West Business Support Exists
These experiences shaped our mission: to help small businesses thrive by shouldering the operational burdens that prevent owners from focusing on what they love. We've witnessed firsthand how excellent businesses can struggle under the weight of paperwork, inefficient systems, and time constraints. You don't need the expensive franchise model with its predetermined systems and substantial fees. What you need is tailored support that understands your unique challenges and implements practical solutions that work for your specific business. South West Business Support exists to be that partner—combining our corporate expertise with real small business experience to help you streamline operations, make informed decisions and reclaim your time.
